‘Ogo wanted’: Portable drops new EP amid Ogun government clash

Controversial Nigerian street singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, is set to release a new extended play (EP) detailing his recent clash with the Ogun State government.

The development comes days after Portable was declared wanted by the police for conspiracy, serious assault, armed violence, breach of public peace, and attempted murder through the alleged recruitment of armed thugs.

He later turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba before being transferred to the Ogun State Police headquarters.

Last Friday, the singer was arraigned in court on a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, and wielding dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and guns. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N20 million. As part of his bail conditions, he was restricted from discussing the case or related matters on social media. The trial is scheduled to continue on March 5.

Despite the restriction, Portable has found a creative way to express himself. Taking to his Instagram page, he teased the release of his new EP, titled ‘Ogo Wanted’, where he seemingly references his ongoing legal troubles. In his post, he boasted that the money he makes from music surpasses earnings from internet fraud, known locally as “Yahoo Yahoo.”

“OGO Wanted. Music money pass Yahoo. Zeh Nation, many inspiration,” he wrote.

Fans flooded his comment section with reactions, many noting that the singer had turned his legal drama into a musical project.

One follower, @Dorck_i, wrote, “Emergency album.”

Another, @Ayor_aad, commented, “This one used the whole matter to record a full EP.”

A user, @Theonlyimmam, stated, “They said you shouldn’t talk online again, so now you’re using music instead?”
