N100m demanded for two abducted residents in Osun

News Update

Gunmen who abducted Tayese Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi, two residents of Ora Igbomina, a border community in Osun State, have demanded a ransom of N100 million for the release of their captives.

Sources close to the victims’ families told journalists on Monday that the abductors had made contact and issued a ransom demand.

One of the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said, “They reached out to us and demanded N100 million to release them.”

The source explained that the kidnappers contacted the family through the mobile phone of one of the abducted men.

“They called us through the phone line of one of the victims and placed a ransom of N100 million. We do not have such an amount and are hoping they will reduce it,” the source added.

VAM News had reported that the victims were seized during an attack on a private residence along the Aran–Orin Road in the Papa area of the town on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Residents said the incident occurred a few minutes before midnight when the assailants stormed the house and fired sporadic shots to frighten residents.

Following the abduction, the Osun State Police Command announced the launch of a manhunt aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said efforts to rescue the victims were ongoing.

Ojelabi stated, “The search and rescue operations by our operatives are still ongoing,” adding that the command had not been officially informed of any ransom demand.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had ordered additional deployments to the area to strengthen security and facilitate the rescue of the abducted residents.

This recent abduction comes after another resident of Ora Igbomina, Emmanuel Owolabi, a retired personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service, was abducted in late 2025.
