Police station burnt in Ondo – details

News Update

Angry youths in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State chased away policemen at the divisional police station in Ifon town and set it ablaze.

Residents said the crisis began with a clash between two groups of youths in the community on Valentine’s Day.

This newspaper learnt that one group reported the case to the police, leading to the arrest of two members of the other group.

One of the arrested individuals reportedly died from police torture, while the other was hospitalised.

The development infuriated some youths in the community, who protested at the police station, allegedly chased away officers on duty, and set the place ablaze.

The protest reportedly continued on Sunday morning, prompting the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, to visit the town for an on-the-spot assessment.
