News Update
Barely days after the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, raised the dust about the elongation of the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Police Service Commission has approved the retirement of all officers who are above the age of 60 years.
A statement by the PSC on Friday, January 31, said that all officers who have either exceeded the 35 years of service or are above 60 years should proceeded for retirement process.
Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the PSC in the statement said that the commission has reviewed its stance on the 24th plenary meeting which took place in September 2017.
BAni said the recommendations from the meeting allowed entrants to use their enlistment date rather than their initial appointment dates.
He however, stated that, “The commission has passionately revisited their decision and has concluded that the said decision in its intent and purpose contradicted the principle of the merger of service in the public service and it violates of Public Service Rule No 020908 ( i & ii), which provides for retirement on attainment of 35 years in service or 60 years of age.”
