Plane carrying 53 passengers crashes in Nigeria

A Boeing 737 aircraft belonging to Max Air suffered a tyre burst at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night.

The aircraft marked 5N-MBD had 53 passengers onboard, and suffered the incident around 10.47pm.

According to a report, the aircraft the tyre of the plane was said to have catch fire immediately after touching down before skiding off the runway.

One of the passengers, Aliyu Inuwa Mansir said “The front tire burst into flames upon landing, filling the cabin with smoke. We had to evacuate quickly through the emergency exit. Firefighters were already dousing the flames as we got out.”

Malam Bello Ramalan, Max Air’s Kano Station Manager, confirmed that everyone onboard was safely evacuated.

He explained that the airline is collaborating with the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED) to determine the cause of the incident.
