The Federal Government of Nigeria on Monday is actively working to enhance its domestic drone technology capabilities and has engaged representatives of Loong UAV, a China-based global leader in tactical drone solutions.
The Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Dr Joseph Tegbe, who led the Nigerian delegation, said the collaboration with Loong UAV aims to strengthen Nigeria’s capabilities in drone technology and explore broader opportunities for cooperation.
Tegbe noted, “The cooperation with Loong UAV is expected to bolster Nigeria’s domestic capabilities in drone technology, facilitating access to essential services and commodities in remote or hard-to-reach regions.
“This innovative use of drones could significantly enhance Nigeria’s logistical capabilities, creating new opportunities for economic growth and development.”
He further emphasised that the partnership would support not only economic growth and development but also position Nigeria as a key player in Africa’s industrialisation.
“Overall, these agreements and investments demonstrate the NCSP’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation through targeted Chinese investments,” Tegbe added.
Additionally, Tegbe highlighted other collaborative efforts with the Chinese government and companies, which include improving smart, qualitative education, enhancing healthcare delivery, upgrading communications technology, strengthening security infrastructure, and digitalising key government facilities.
He also mentioned plans to renovate and upgrade equipment in selected teaching hospitals across Nigeria.
Tegbe further elaborated on an agreement between the NCSP and Chilwee Group, a leading Chinese manufacturer of advanced batteries and power storage solutions. This partnership aims to improve Nigeria’s energy security, promote renewable energy, and reduce carbon emissions.
“Chilwee Group has committed to investing in Nigeria through a multifaceted approach, including sales, manufacturing, and potentially mining raw materials for the power storage value chain,” he said.
The Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership continues to strengthen bilateral relations, with recent agreements and investments in energy, technology, and manufacturing sectors expected to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation.
