A 46-year-old Uber driver, Muftau Abiodun Musa, has reportedly committed suicide in Osogbo, the capital of Osun.
It was gathered that the man had no wife or kids and had been battling depression for the past five years.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Musa had attempted suicide three times: once by hanging and twice by drinking insecticide and pesticide.
The source revealed that in December 2023, he attempted to hang himself but was stopped by his neighbors.
It was learned that the deceased was staying with his mother, who kept monitoring his condition. He was subsequently taken to LAUTECH for treatment, where he spent two months.
The source also revealed that after he was discharged from the hospital, his family continued to pressure him to get married and have kids, which led him to leave the house.
According to the source: “In his quest for a new house, someone sublet one of the rooms in her house to him. He was in that house since May 2024. The house rent expired in December, but he was given until the end of January to pack out, as the house owner wanted to renovate the house. The person who sublet the house told him three days ago to find another house, as the owner had told them to leave. He became depressed and hanged himself.”
The source revealed that the Osun State Police Command has taken over the matter.
Reports show that the deceased left a text message and note. In the message, he wrote: “It will be easy to call people on my phone. And don’t shout or cry, I thank you.”
In the note, he wrote: “Before you call anybody, check messages on my phone.”
