Nigerian Bride allegedly poisons wedding guests

News Update

A wedding celebration in Jigawa State turned into a harrowing ordeal after a bride allegedly poisoned food served at the reception, leaving the groom critically ill and one guest dead.

The shocking incident, which unfolded in Jahun Local Government Area, has sparked outrage and speculation over the bride’s alleged motives.

Eyewitnesses hinted that her actions might have been fuelled by a personal grudge, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.

Confirming the grim development, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, disclosed that investigations are in full swing to uncover the truth behind the disturbing event.

“We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill,” Adam stated.

He further revealed that two suspects—identified as the bride and another female accomplice—have been arrested and are being interrogated by the command’s Criminal Investigation Department.

“All wedding attendees who consumed the poisoned food have been discharged from the hospital, except for one unfortunate victim who succumbed,” Adam added, underscoring the severity of the incident.

Assuring the public of justice, Adam said, “We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served. The command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and will provide more details as soon as possible. For now, we urge the public to remain calm.”

While the identities of the deceased, the groom, and other victims remain undisclosed, the tragic event has left a cloud of shock and grief over the community. The police have vowed to leave no stone unturned in their quest for justice.
