A tasty Arsenal victory over Manchester United turned tragic for Gunners fans in Lukaya town, Kalungu District, after a security guard fatally shot one person and injured another during a heated post-match altercation.
The incident occurred at the Uganda Cares building on Wednesday night, following Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the English Premier League.

The security guard, attached to Gardaworld Security Company, reportedly fired his weapon after tensions escalated during celebrations by Arsenal fans.
It is the second year running that games between the two English giants has elicited wild emotions thousands of kilometres back home in Kampala.
Last year Arsenal’s victory led to reported suicide and fatal stabbing while seven jubilant fans were arrested in Jinja City while holding a mock trophy parade procession.
According to witness accounts, the fans’ exuberant chanting and cheering drew complaints from the building’s manager only identified as Banda, who instructed the guard to intervene.
Despite repeated warnings, the fans continued their jubilant celebrations.
In a bid to restore order, the building’s owners switched off the electricity, further aggravating the already volatile situation.
Amid the chaos, the guard reportedly discharged his firearm, fatally wounding John Ssenyonga, 30, and injuring another fan only identified as Lawrence.
Ssenyonga succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

Greater Masaka Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
“A case has been opened against the security guard, and we are actively pursuing him,” Kasirye said.
The security guard is on the run, he added.
Kasirye also appealed to football fans to maintain decorum during celebrations.
“We encourage our people to celebrate peacefully. Violence in the name of football support is unacceptable,” he said.
The incident has sparked outrage in Lukaya, with community members demanding accountability and questioning the actions of private security personnel.
“This was unnecessary,” lamented one resident. “There needs to be better management of such situations, especially during emotionally charged events like football matches.”
Concerns have also been raised about the use of lethal force in a civilian setting, particularly during a non-threatening celebration.
Calls for stricter regulation and oversight of private security firms have intensified following the tragedy.
As police intensify the search for the guard, the incident serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers of unchecked aggression during sports celebrations.
