Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has presented free health insurance cards to no fewer than 10,000 people living with disabilities in the state.
Adeleke also distributed life-support gadgets and state-of-the-art medical aids to the PWDs, saying the equipment will make existence more meaningful for them.
The gadgets included thousands of wheelchairs (manual and automated), crutches, walking sticks, talking watches, artificial limbs, hearing aids, ultraviolet umbrellas, cream and glasses – for albinos – and many more other gadgets.
Speaking at the presentation and distribution of the items in Osogbo on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke said some of the people with disabilities will also undergo free surgical procedures to cure their ailments.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary of Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHA), Dr Rasaq Akindele, disclosed that Governor Adeleke has achieved a lot through the agency.
He said some of the achievements included complete payment of outstanding capitations and fee for service (13 months arrears), completion, furnishing and commissioning of the OSHIA office complex, Abeere, complete digitalization of OSHIA operations and inauguration of OSHLA Governing board, for smooth running of the agency.
Akindele also mentioned regular provision of drugs to partnering facilities through adequate funding and monitoring of the OSHIA Drug Distribution Center (DDC), distribution of multimillion naira equipment free to OHIS accredited government facilities to assist in providing optimum care for our enrollees, enrollment of over 23,000 pensioners into the free OHIS programme with free medical and surgical treatment among others as other achievements.
