Orji Kalu: I earn total of N14m monthly from Senate, not enough to buy petrol

Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has revealed that his monthly earning as a Senator is just N14m.

The lawmaker, who represents Abia North in the Senate, disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday.

The Senator dismissed the belief among some Nigerians that lawmakers are living in affluence while the masses live in poverty.

There has been confusion over the monthly earnings of Nigerian federal lawmakers, with some lawmakers saying they earn as much as N21m.

“I earn N14 million for everything in a month. That is everything encompassing, the overhead, the worker’s salary, everybody,” Uzor-Kalu said.

Speaking further, Kalu argued that the N14 million is not enough to buy petrol to travel to his constituency, maintain the constituency office, among other things.
