Parley: Osun Electoral Commission assures PWD of inclusion, safety during LG elections

Ahead of February, 2025 Osun Local government elections, the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSEIC) Chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye, has assured Persons With Disability (PWD) of safety at the council polls.

The commission gave the assurance on Monday during the 5th Media Parley of the Osun Online Publishers Association held in Osogbo, the state capital.

When responding to journalists questions on the preparation of his office for the February,2025 LG Elections Barr. Abioye says “OSSIEC is assuring the stakeholders in Osun State of their determination to conduct free, fair and credible election in February 2025, also noted that the commission has reckoned with the persons with disability (PWD).

“PWDs are part of us at the adhoc level, and we have some committees which they have representation, and there is provisions to take care of them and they will be treated specially for the purpose of the elections”

The OSSIEC Chairman, Abioye, further stated that “electoral commission of today is different from the past. Nobody has interfered with our process and none is interfering in what we are doing at all levels”.

Abioye goes further to buttress his statement:”We have no affiliation with politicians but men and women of integrity and technocrats;we are apolitcal”, he said.

Barr Abioye says that he and his team are committed to supervising the best Local Government Elections in the state because a lot of voters education is on-going while also, he has been carrying along all the stakeholders:police,anti-crime units,the transport unit in the State in order to come out with a transparent processes that we all will be proud of.

According to Barr Abioye the cooperation and efforts of all the Security agents and the electorates in making the electoral process a success is a sine- qua- non.

Abioye said the commission will commence on orientation campaigns in collaboration with the media, NDLEA, and the like,to sensitize the residents at the grassroots to do away with violence during the election period.

“We are enjoining all the stakeholders especially the electorates to cooperate with the commission, we will deliver an election process that the State would be proud of, anytime any day”,he emphasized.

“We have started with the inauguration of Electoral Officers and Verification Committee and the calibre of people we have brought on board, that we shall still bring on board would show that definitely the process is heading for the good.”

He commended the security Operatives in the state, for cooperation and partnership in the process so far.
