THE Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed that the party has “lost nothing” due to defection of certain members to the opposition.
The Osun PDP Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi made this known in his address dated 31st of August, 2024.
While responding to some recent developments within the party, specifically addressing the defection of certain members to the opposition, he said, “It has come to our attention at the State Working Committee of the PDP that certain individuals have defected to the opposition party, including a habitual wanderer who was previously suspended by our party for anti-party activities driven by bitterness.”
In a tone of reassurance, Hon. Bisi made it clear that the PDP had “lost nothing” with these defections, describing the individuals as “dead weights” whose departure was not unexpected.
He elaborated that these individuals had long engaged in “nocturnal moves and hobnobbing with the opposition,” with the intention of exploiting the positions of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and his own office for personal gain.
“Their true intentions were to exploit His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke’s position and that of my good office to impose themselves on other leaders, despite lacking the capacity and trust of the people,” he asserted.
Hon. Bisi also addressed inquiries from various media outlets and the public, emphasizing that the PDP is not troubled by these defections.
He urged party members and supporters to remain steadfast, highlighting that not all numbers in politics are beneficial, especially when they “pollute the positive and loyal ones.”
He stressed his commitment to protecting the party’s general interest and upholding discipline, rejecting any notion of catering to individuals who have lost touch with the realities of contemporary party management. “To renege on this would be a betrayal of my oath and the pact the party signed with every one of you who supported and voted for us,” he declared.
Hon. Bisi praised Governor Adeleke for his exemplary leadership and the stability he has brought to the party, which he said has laid a strong foundation for future electoral success in Osun State. “We are resolved not to allow spent forces to distract him; instead, we’ll continue to work together to sustain the current tempo of development as we pledged,” he affirmed.
In a stern warning, Hon. Bisi reiterated the party’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, stating that the PDP would not return to the “dark days of reckless behavior and blackmail without proven capacity.”
He concluded by expressing confidence in the party’s future, revealing that new members from various opposition parties are continually joining the PDP. However, he noted that the party would not boast about these gains, unlike the opposition, which he described as “defeated experts in failure.”
Hon. Bisi thanked the people of Osun State and PDP members for their continued support and commitment, promising that the party would deliver on the trust placed in them.
