Days after increasing passport fee from N50,000 to N100,000, the Nigeria Immigration Service on Friday confirmed technical issues with its online payment platform for passport applications.
The agency apologised for the downtime and assured the public that it is working to restore seamless service as soon as possible.
In a public notice posted on its X account, NIS said it regretted any inconvenience caused and requested patience as it resolved the issue.
It was titled, “Technical Hitches with Online Payment Platform.”
“We apologise for the downtime being experienced with online applications on our Passport Service windows.
“The Service is assuring the public that within the shortest possible time, seamless service will be restored.
“All inconveniences this may have caused is highly regretted. Please bear with us.”
It will be recalled that the Federal Government just approved a hike in the fees for the Nigerian passport, effective from September 1, 2024.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesman for the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kenneth Udo, on the X handle of the NIS.
“Based on the review, a 32-page passport booklet with five-year validity previously charged at N35,000 will now be N50,000 only; while a 64-page passport booklet with 10-year validity, which was N70,000, will be N100,000,” the statement read partly.
