Edo SSG Quits Obaseki’s Government

Voice Air Media, News Update

IT was an outpouring of praises and commendations as the Secretary to State Government (SSG) of Edo State, Osarodion Ogie Esq. on Friday bowed out after seven years and nine months making him the longest-serving SSG in the history of the state.

He resigned from his position in line with the law as he is the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him, “It was in fulfilment of this requirement that I have to resign to face my deputy governorship ambition in the forthcoming election in the state.”

Ogie had served as a member of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) from where he became the Secretary of Grace Group, a pressure group then in the PDP with the slogan “No man is God” from where he became the Secretary, Oshiomhole Campaign Organization.

He coordinated the legal team of Oshiomhole that culminated in the Court of Appeal, Benin Division declaring him the winner of the 2007 Edo State governorship election.

Ogie was appointed Chief of Staff to Oshiomhole between 2008 and 2012 from where he became the Commissioner for Works. To underscore his importance in that administration, he still played some strategic political roles for Oshiomhole outside the ministry.

He became the SSG when Governor Godwin Obaseki became the governor of the state in 2016.

One striking character in Ogie is his open-door policy in the real sense of it as his doors are never shut against anyone both in the office and in his house except he is not around.

The former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Iyamu, SAN described him as “my Oga, brother, confidant, mentor and friend” adding that “We look forward with faith to a future of even greater service at a higher level and thank all who have expressed support.

In the same vein, a statement by the Edo Forum of Patriots (EFP) signed by its Assistant Administrator, Peter Omoruyi Igbinedion described Ogie as the model giant of Bureaucratic and Political structures of the state who “navigated those passages with admirable gusto and inimitable service delivery. The non-replicable addition of a peerless character quality to the mix makes your shoes almost impossible to fill.

“You have served the State and you have served the citizens. Yours has been hard work and greater work. Today, in fulfilment of the maxim for the reward for hard work, we humbly pray to God for More Work and More service to Edo, our motherland.”

Signifying that Ogie’s popularity cuts across all political parties, the Publisher of Midwest Herald, Orobosa Omo-Ojo who is also the Director of Publicity, Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council described Ogie as a colossus who shaped Edo State political space like no other statesman.

He said, “Politics would not be in such perilous state if more players followed Ogie wise, but ruthlessly pragmatic approach to it.”

Also, the twin brother to former Chief of Staff (CoS) to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Taiwo Francis Akerele, Kehinde Oziametu Akerele while congratulating Ogie, described him as a great man who operated an open door policy both in the office and at home.

“The first time I had a personal encounter with you, (Ogie) I went home thinking so this is SSG like this. From the gate to your living room nobody asked me who I was looking for. The next day you asked me to see you in the office with another person, it was still the same thing, all doors were open. Indeed you are a great man. I wish you well in your future endeavours, good health, long life and prosperity Sir.”, Akerele said.
