Population: Osun FP Stakeholders advocate inclusive Data for National development

OSUN: Family Planning Stakeholders have called for adequate data for national planning and development.

They made the call in Osogbo, Osun state capital, during a media roundtable to commemorate the 2024 World Population Day on Tuesday.

The programme was organised by The Challenge Initiatives Nigeria (TCI) a Non-governmental organisation in collaboration with Development Communications Network (DEVCOMS), also a Non-governmental organisation.

In her remarks, Dr Adebusola Oyeyemi, TCI State Manager, said accurate statistics would assist government to plan for her citizens.

“Without adequate and accurate data, it might be difficult for government to plan adequately for her citizens.”

Represented by Mr Daniel Oluwafunso, TCI Demand Generation State Technical Lead, Oyeyemi said steps taken so far by the TCI since 2022 was to improve to improve health indices.

She said that TCI assisted in demand generation, research monitoring and advocacy.

Oyeyemi explained that TCI programme include expression of interest, programme design, implementation and graduation.

Speaking on TCI update, Oyeyemi said that TCI had guiding principles of demand driven, local ownership and system readiness.

“TCI is a platform that enables state governments to set up high impact family planning and Adolescent Youths Sexual Reproductive Health approach for the urban poor.

” It also represents a high innovative approach to development intended to strengthen the understanding of scale, impact, efficiency and sustainability”, she said.

Also, Mrs Ololade Abatan, the family planning coordinator, Osun Ministry of Health, said that data was very important for planning and national growth.

Abatan said that family planning would make women to be more productive, active and be able to support the family.

In his presentation, Dr Olasunmboye, Oyetunde, the State Health Management Officer (HMIS) in his presentation, said that for sustainable development, adequate data was very important.

Oyetunde spoke on the topic ” Embracing Power Of Inclusive Data Towards Resilient and Equitable Future For All”.

He said that inclusive Data involves representation of the people, avoiding bias, and discrimination , inclusive planning and policy formulation, among others.

Oyetunde, who noted that to have a sustainable development, there is need for adequate data, said that there huge gap between government policies and it’s implementation.

He mentioned importance of Inclusive Data to include; accurate representation, promoting equity, supporting local development, among others.

Oyetunde also said that inclusive data could helped to end hunger through resource allocation, policy development, community engagement, among others.

He, however, called on government to embrace inclusive Data for proper planning for a sustainable growth in the society.
