Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced the availability of two new monetisation features for content creators in Nigeria and Ghana.

Speaking on Monday, Meta said the features — which include Facebook in-stream ads and Facebook ads on reels — will allow creators to earn money for creating original videos and building communities.

Meta said starting June 1, eligible creators will be able to monetise their video and reel content, with support available in over 30 languages worldwide.

Moon Baz, Meta’s global partnerships lead for Africa, Middle East and Turkey (AMET), said the company was inspired by African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others and unite people.

“This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry across Nigeria and Ghana to earn money, whilst setting the bar high for creativity across the world and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop-shop for all creators,” Baz said.

According to the company, creators must comply with Facebook’s partner monetisation policies and content monetisation policies and be at least 18 years old to use either product.

“Additionally, for in-stream ads creators must meet certain eligibility requirements such as having a minimum of 5,000 followers,” Meta said.

“In-stream Ads can play before, during or after on-demand videos, whether it’s pre-recorded content or when publishing a recording of a previous live stream.

“Types of In-stream Ads include Pre-roll Ads (which play before a video starts,), Mid-roll Ads (which play during videos), Image Ads (static image ads that display beneath the content) and Post-roll Ads (ads which appear at the end of videos).”

Meta said ads on Facebook reels seamlessly integrate into original reels, allowing creators to get paid based on the performance of their reels while entertaining fans.
