Collaborative Effort Will Make Osun Clean Always, Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin To Residents

THE Osun state Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adeniyi Adejoorin, has charged residents across the state to maintain a clean environment.

The commissioner made this call on Tuesday during a media chat in Osogbo, Osun state capital, urging the people of the State to cooperate with the government and take responsibility in making their environment clean.

He added that as part of the efforts to rid the state of dirtiness and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, the State Government has reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation in the state.

The government also introduced environmental Marshals that will be in charge of the street cleaning across the 30 local government, including area office.

He said that Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved once in a month environmental sanitation that will be held every last Saturday of the month.

Adejoorin said, “To the glory of God, the governor has approved that we renate environmental sanitation once in a month and we are starting by the end of the next month (April). We are going to have environmental sanitation at the last Saturday of the month.

“The government will introduce environmental Marshall and they start work by the end of this month. You will see them in the streets both men and women cleaning and cutting grasses, you see them along the street of the state.

He, however, charged the residents of the state to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse at roadside for the benefit of all.

Adejoorin urged the people to obey rules and regulations of the government to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse, the indiscriminate dumping of refuse lead to flooding.

“We make series of awareness campaign through different channels to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse to avoid flooding from various home and offices.

“In Osun State we are trying to prevent flooding from our different homes across the state.

“The Environmental health and sanitation, the waste management department and agency they have been trying a lot to make sure our environment is clean but the attitude of our people most times make people to see as if we are not doing the best.

“Our people despite all efforts on radios Televisions community interaction to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the road during the night.

“While everybody is expected to have refuse bin in their home through Private Sector Partnership PSP, anybody that is apprehended by law enforcement agencies will be up for it. Our people should responsible for cleaning of their environment. They should know that the government mean well for them.”
