Ekiti: Police alert drivers of car theft trend

In response to rising concerns over car theft in Ekiti State, the State Police Command has issued a cautionary alert to car owners and drivers in the state regarding the increasing tactics used by criminals to steal cars.

The Command made this known via a press statement signed by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday.

According to the Command, criminals have devised new methods, including the use of master keys, to unlock, start and steal cars from parks and garages.

In response to the emerging trend, the Command urged the public, especially car owners and drivers, to remain vigilant and implement security measures to protect their vehicles.

To enhance car security, the Command provides the following tips for car owners and drivers “To Install a tracking system; Avoid parking in get-away positions; Refrain from parking in poorly lit areas; Install an audible alarm system and anti-theft device; Never leave your key in the car; Be cautious and avoid leaving your car unattended for extended periods without assessing the safety of the area; Memorize your plate number to facilitate immediate police action in case of theft; Avoid leaving original documents in the car; Refrain from parking in isolated places; Always ensure all windows are fully closed.”
