THE Lagos State Government has raised the scholarship and bursary amounts for students enrolled in tertiary institutions within the state. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this announcement during a One-Day Interactive Session with Student Union Leaders and Stakeholders in Lagos State, organized by the Ministry of Tertiary Education. The event’s theme was “Students as Strategic Partners in the Governance Process: Challenges and Prospects for Youth Development.”
According to a statement by the Lagos State Government, starting from 2024, the scholarship and bursary amounts for indigenous students will be increased to N225,000 and N60,000, respectively, compared to the previous figures of N200,000 and N50,000.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also revealed that scholarships would be extended to less privileged and physically challenged students in public tertiary institutions, emphasizing that the opportunity would not be restricted to Lagos indigenes alone.
In addition to the scholarship announcement, the governor appointed four former Students Union leaders as Senior Special Assistants (SSAs). The appointed SSAs are Eniola Opeyemi, Kayode Samuel, Giwa Moore, and Adeola Adewunmi.
During the interactive session, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his commitment to engaging students constructively and improving infrastructure in public institutions. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to creating a sustainable and conducive environment for students across all public tertiary institutions in Lagos State.
