Two persons have been confirmed dead in a fresh attack by armed herdsmen in Umogidi community in Entekpa Ward of Adoka District in Otukpo Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State.
Â
The latest attack, which came a few days after 10 persons were killed in a familiar attack in the
Â
community, also left several persons injured.
Â
An indigene of the area, one Joseph Adakole, who claimed that the deceased were his uncle and cousin, said the marauders stormed the community Thursday evening and opened fire on the victims.
Â
He said, “The herdsmen attacked Umogidi again in the evening of Thursday and killed some persons and left others injured. The two that were confirmed dead so far were my relatives. One was my uncle, and the other was a cousin.”
Â
Reacting, the Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo, LGA, Alfred Omakwu, said aside from killing the two victims, the marauders also engaged the military and security personnel deployed to the area.
Â
He informed that the marauders, after retreating, threatened to stage a comeback, but calm had returned to the community.
Â
“From Friday, there has been calm, and the military presence has increased. But we are still receiving threats from them. Two of our youths were killed on Thursday. At the point of their entry into the community, they engaged those ones and the military too.”
Â
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP Catherine Anene, said she had not received information on the development.
