At least one person was feared dead while fiver others were injured from sporadic shooting by alleged land grabbers who invaded farmland in Akpajo-Eleme community, Eleme local government area of Rivers State on Friday.
Available information indicated that the suspected land grabbers who were armed with dangerous weapons invaded the farmland in Akpajo and started shooting sporadically.
However, the reason for the invasion could not be ascertained as at the time of writing this report.
However, the shooting resulted in the death of one person while five young men sustained various degrees of injuries.
The injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO confirmed the incident in a press statement.
“The command is aware of the situation and a full-scale investigation has commenced.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Tunji Rilwan Disu has deployed Tactical Teams to the area and normalcy has been restored.
“As a matter of fact, people are going about their lawful businesses and activities”.
Akpajo-Eleme is a host to many multinationals, including the two Port Harcourt Refineries, Indorama Petrochemical and Fertilizer Company and others.
