Osun: New Imam For Inisa Central Mosque Appointed

Osun State Government has announced the appointment of Alhaji Akeem Muhammed Jamiu as the new Imam of Inisa Central Mosque, in the Odo Otin Local Government Area of the state.

The appointment followed an agreement with the League of Imams and Alfas in the state.

This was contained in a press release jointly signed by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Alhaji Aderibigbe Rasheed and the Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas in Osun State, Sheik Musa Animashahun.

VAM News had reported that for the first time in almost two years, Muslims in Inisa town in the Odo-Otin Local Government of Osun State observed their Jummat prayer at the Central Mosque last week Friday.

The Central mosque was locked after a tussle ensued between two factions on who would succeed the late Chief Imam of the mosque, Mustapha Baruwa.

The state government in 2021, ordered the closure of the Central Mosque following loss of lives over disagreement on who emerged as the new Chief Imam of the town.

Speaking with journalists after observing the Jumat prayer at the mosque, the Secretary of the Association of Imam and Khatib in Osun State, Sheikh Abdullahi Olohunlomerue, noted that efforts were ongoing to end the tussle and have an Imam for the mosque.

He expressed optimism that the matter would be settled by the Grand Imam of the State, Sheikh Musa Animashaun, before this week’s Jumat service.

The state government in the release warned against disturbing the peace of the State in the name of religion, adding that whoever is trying to use religion to perpetrate unrest shall be dealt with accordingly.

The release further stated that Alhaji Moshood Oyedokun was nominated as the new muffassir of the community.
