To cushion the effect of the removal of petrol subsidy by the Government, the wife of the lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Mrs Adedayo Adeyemi, has given cash gifts and food gift items to women in the Local Government.
The event was held on Wednesday at the Constituency Office of Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu, in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government. Beneficiaries from the ten wards in the Constituency received food and cash support.
Speaking at the occasion, Mrs Adeyemi revealed that the program would be coming up regularly and is designed to help the vulnerable across the Constituency.
She then commended the State Government for their efforts in lining up programmes to cushion the effect of the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Speaking on the hardship facing Nigerians, the wife of the lawmaker said “Fellow Constituents, this period may be hard on us, and there is no doubt about it that it is tough on us. Let’s keep hope and faith alive as we navigate this season together.”
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event commended Mrs Adeyemi for the kind gesture towards the people and, however, at the same time lauded Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi for his good representation at the Osun State House of Assembly.
“We appreciate them staying with us during this trying time. This support initiative demonstrates their unwavering commitment to the people. At least there isn’t much politics going on right now, but we’re still not forgotten or abandoned. We truly appreciate that, Wumi added in a cheerful tone.”
In his response, the Obokun State Constituency Member, Hon. Adeyemi, also known as Irekandu, expressed gratitude for his wife’s choice to provide food and cash presents to those in need.
While mentioning his scholarship programme, among other empowerment initiatives, which has returned many out-of-school children back to school on full scholarship, Adeyemi said that the distribution of food and monetary gifts will support his office’s efforts to lessen the suffering of his constituents.
The philanthropist, however, charged Governmental officials, the affluent to do more to support the weak and impoverished.
