Chief Grace Atinuke Oyelude, the first Miss Nigeria ever, has been celebrated as she turns ninety-three years old.
The Chief became the first female Miss Nigeria in 1957, having earned the title for the first time.
Grace Atinuke was born and raised in Northern Nigeria, and she represented the area when her brother gave the Daily Times, the pageant organisers, a picture of her.
She vanished from the spotlight as soon as she won, since back then, winners were chosen by the images they submitted. She utilised the £200 cash award to go to England and join in nursing school.
In the end, she obtained certification as a nurse and was given the titles Iyaolu of Isaluland and Iyalode of Okunland.
The Miss Nigeria organisation has always honoured the former beauty queen’s birthday and gave her a Peugeot back in 2015.
This year, they took to their Instagram to write,
“We are immensely delighted to celebrate the evergreen beauty and brave leader, Chief Grace Atinuke Oyelude, on the occasion of her 93rd birthday.”
Her courage, resolve, and great strength of character are excellent qualities that have endeared her to us and many others.
Happy birthday once again, to the very first Miss Nigeria, Chief Grace Atinuke Oyelude.
Thank you for pavering the way and setting the standards that all Miss Nigeria Queens walk through as well as your priceless contributions towards women empowerment.”
