Plateau University ASUU declares indefinite strike
Academic activities have been paralysed at the Plateau State University, Bokkos (PLASU) following comprehensive and indefinite strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the university.
In a statement by the university chapter of ASUU, signed by its chairperson, Dr. Hassan Monday Zitta, and secretary, Comrade Deme Samson Bitrus, it stated that the strike was a sequel to the report of the National Executive Council visitation team, where it was established that the state government has failed to implement the second agreement signed in 2022 with the union.
It stated that the ASUU National President has granted the branch her request to resume its suspended strike, adding that the approval granted was followed by a Congress where a total strike was declared.
According to the statement, the issues in contention are inadequate capital projects by the state government, the provision of additional hostel accommodation, the tarring and completion of the road network on campus, and the provision of staff quarters.
Other demands include the completion of perimeter fencing at the university and an enduring functional training policy with budgetary allocation for the training of scholars by visitors, among other demands.
