Jubilation as Appeal Court sacks Cornelius Nnaji, upholds election of Labour Party’s Nnamchi

VAM News update

THE Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has voided the verdict of the Enugu State National Assembly and State House of Assembly tribunal which earlier nullified the election of Professor Sunday Nnamchi.

VAM News recalls that the tribunal on September 8th, 2023 nullified the election of Nnamchi of the Labour Party and declared Prince Cornelius Nnaji (Ike Nike) winner of the February 25 polls.

The three-man panel led by A. M. Abubakar held that the LP candidate was not qualified to contest the election as he never resigned from the university before seeking the new position.

However, Nnamchi sought redress in the Appeal Court seeking to set aside the verdict of the lower court.

Ruling on the matter on Friday, the Court of Appeal held that the appeal of the Labour Party candidate has merit.

The court subsequently declared him the true winner of the election to represent the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency of the state.
