THE struggles of students in Ilobu Commercial Grammar School of Irepodun Local Government area of Osun state, came to the notice of Voice Air Media correspondent, on November 1st, 2023.
As it is known that there are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, the attainment of the 4th, 6th, and 13th (quality education, clean water and sanitation, climate action) is currently threatened in Ilobu community.
According to a video obtained by InsightMedia, the collapsed bridge leads to two grammar schools with each of them housing about 500 students while a primary school with about 700 students was also near the secondary schools. The report said totaling 1,700 are crawling to access their school buildings.
The president of the Old Students Association of one of the schools, Prof Babatunde Ogunsola gave detailed information about a collapsed bridge which resulted to the struggles of the students and then pleaded with the Osun state government for help.
According to Ogunsola, “the bridge was constructed in the year 1973/74 and started collapsing in the year 2022.”
“Heavy rainfalls and erosion have destroyed many houses. We thereby implore the Osun State governor under the able leadership of our ever dynamic and active governor, Sen Isiaka Ademola Jackson Adeleke to please direct the attention of our able commissioner for both road and environment to visit this collapsed bridge and do the needful to averting unwarranted and inherent danger.”
“Our plea equally goes to our distinguished Senator in the Nigeria Senate, Sen. Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla of Osun Central Senatorial District, and his able dynamic counterpart in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Ademola Rauf Adebayo (Alias: Gangaria) representing Irepodun, Orolu, Olorunda and Osogbo Federal Constituency.”
“Our plea also goes to Hon. Adekunle Adedimeji, the member representing Irepodun, Orolu, in Osun State House of Assembly to please come to our aid in this regard”
Similarly, Some students also expressed their struggles and thus pleaded with the members of the community in authority to come to their rescue.
Meanwhile, effort to reach the state Commissioner of Education proved abortive as at time of filling this report.
