Flood has displaced people said to be over 500 in number from their houses in Unguwan Tana, a community in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The flood was attributed to overflow of River Benue along its banks around the community due mainly to release of water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
The affected persons are now taking shelter at the Government Day Secondary School, Limawa, Jimeta where academia activities have been affected.
Principal of the school, Musa Jada, said several of the classrooms are being occupied by some of the displaced persons.
The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who visited the community Wednesday afternoon, promised government’s intervention.
Farauta said government is partnering with nongovernmental organizations to bring succour to victims of the disaster.
She urged other people living along the banks of the River Benue to relocate to higher ground as the volume of water in the River Benue is expected to increase further.
