Author: Lawrence BornRoyal (Abioye)

Over two years ago, I attended burial ceremony of a prominent person, tragedy struck minutes after the body was interred at a cemetry stone’s throw away to reception, people whose faces looked so grim at the burial ground before getting to reception had suddenly began to wrestle over plates of rice, less than 5 minutes. This is how we mock the dead and is so very pathetic.

When the dead was alive, a lot of people might have betrayed him, he might have worked for some of innumerous mourners who failed to reward his efforts before he died. some relatives who does not understood his agony would have distant him, but when they heard that bad news, they begin to show love, reward the dead with gifts he doesn’t receive in his lifetime. Wicked people of Africa, you are not trying at all.

Bad people are your friends on streets, ambitious people are your enemies, because you think the world must be for you only all the time, you love to hunt down stars, you watch as bread winner becomes bread loser, so nobody wins.

On social media, only important people will be expecting likes, comments, shares and they could not even help that dead person grow his bussiness while alive. they feel too big to honor the poor on his birthday; But, on his dead day, those hidden friends would troop out, use the dead pictures as dp, do many graphic works, candle night and go extra mile to bid him farewell, celebrate someone who was nobody to them.
