THE Commissioner for Lands in Kano State, Adamu Aliyu, has been dismissed by Governor Abba Yusuf for making death threats against gubernatorial tribunal judges.
Speaking in Hausa at a gathering of the New Nigeria People’s Party on Friday, the commissioner warned the judges in the state to choose between money and their lives. He alleged that the judges had accepted bribes.
“Any judge that accepts bribes and delivers unfair judgments must decide between the bribe and their life,” he said. “You have witnessed the conflicts in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, and Borno. I swear, because of this governorship position, everyone will die. The conflict that will erupt in Kano will be more intense than those in the other states mentioned.”
In addition, Governor Yusuf relieved his Special Adviser on Youths, Yusuf Imam, of his position due to a statement he made against Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Responding to these developments in a statement to the press at the government house on Friday, the State Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, emphasized that Governor Yusuf holds the judiciary in high regard and will not tolerate any disrespect towards them.
Describing the comments as careless and inappropriate, Dantiye announced, “For these reasons, the Governor of Kano State has immediately terminated the appointments of the Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Adamu A. Kibiya, and the Special Adviser on Youth and Sport, Yusuf Imam.”
These statements have raised significant concerns across the state’s political landscape regarding the impartiality and safety of the judges presiding over the election dispute.
