Driver commits suicide by jumping into river in Kogi

VAM News Update

A yet-to-be-identified man committed suicide at Ganaja Bridge, a few metres from the popular Dunamis Church in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The deceased was said to have arrived at the bridge on Tuesday afternoon, September 12, 2023, parked his tricycle, and jumped into the river, saying that he was tired.

An eyewitness disclosed that they were shocked when the deceased took his own life.

He blamed the current hardship facing the country as one of the reasons why such a person would decide to take his own life.

“There is nothing anybody could do when the Keke Man jumped into the river. When he jumped, we saw a snake, and there was nothing anyone could do at that moment,” he told the Nigerian Tribune.

Spokesperson of the state Police Command, SP William Aya, who confirmed the incident, said officers of the Nigeria Marine Police Force have been mobilised to the river to recover the deceased’s body.

“We are yet to get details of the incident. Our officers have been mobilised to recover the body of the deceased. As soon as we get details, our unit will issue details of the sad incident,” the PPRO stated.
