Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have commenced nationwide protests over the removal of petrol subsidy.

The protesters have converged on the Ikeja under-bridge in Lagos.

Last Wednesday, NLC issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to reverse all “anti-poor” and “insensitive” policies.

The union also called on civil society organisations (CSOs) and its councils across the states to join in the August 2 nationwide rally to protest the soaring cost of living in the country.

Efforts by the federal government to halt the planned strike and protest failed.

In Osun

Members of the Osun State Civil Society Organisations, Labour Unions and other civil rights groups in the state have commenced protest over hardship brought upon Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidy and economic hardship by President Bola Tinubu.

It was gathered that the rallies commenced at the Freedom Park went through the major streets in Osogbo.

The protesters brandished placards with inscriptions such as “Tinubu Government is choking Nigerians to death, “Tinubu let us breath”, “Kill corruption, not Nigerians”, “Cost of living in Nigeria is choking us”, “FG allow the poor to breath”, and “Keep your palliatives, fix our refineries”.
