Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Monday a 50 per cent reduction in transportation fares charged by buses operated by Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and a 25 per cent reduction by yellow buses across the state.

This measure is aimed at cushioning the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies on Lagos commuters.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this announcement as he rolled out palliatives for Lagosians to alleviate the hardships they were experiencing due to the fuel subsidy removal.

He stated that people would begin to enjoy the reduced fares from Wednesday across the state.

The governor addressed the press to unveil this package after the conclusion of a security meeting at Lagos House, Ikeja.

He mentioned that the decision had already been communicated to LAMATA, and discussions were ongoing with the authorities of Lagos Park and Garage to ensure effective implementation of the fare reduction for yellow buses.

Sanwo-Olu further disclosed that food packs would also be made available to the vulnerable population in the state on a daily basis as part of measures to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

These food packs would be distributed through Community Development Associations (CDAs), mosques, churches, and local governments, and they would be purchased locally.
