THE Kano State Government has said that preparations are in top gear to conduct a mass wedding for 1,020 couples that have declared interest.
The newly sworn in Commandant of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, who disclosed this on Wednesday, said the essence of organising the mass wedding was to help intending couples that could not get married due to hardship.
He noted that all the intending couples must pass through four tests and that they would be screened before they could be considered into the system in order to avoid facing similar challenges that occurred in a past mass wedding when he was the commandant of the board.
He said, “This time around the couples must pass through four different tests which include HIV test, pregnancy test, genotype and drug tests. We cannot consider anybody that doesn’t pass these tests. We are doing this to assist the couples to live peacefully and have happy marriages. But if someone is into drugs or has a particular illness, then there is a problem.”
He added that 20 couples would be selected from each of the 44 LGAs of the state and that the remaining 120 couples would be selected by the board.
Recall that Sheikh Daurawa was fired from the board by the immediate former Governor of the state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, but was re-appointed as commandant by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
