Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto, has declared June 28 as Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Adha, also known as Sallah, features the slaughtering of ram during the period known as the “festival of sacrifice”.
Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son, Isma’il, in order to demonstrate his dedication to God.
The celebration is the second significant religious festival in Islam, with the first being Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.
According to a statement issued on Sunday evening by the national moonsighting committee, the sultan wished Muslims a happy Eid al-Adha in advance.
“The Sultanate Council Sokoto has declared Monday 19/June/2023 as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH. Accordingly, Wednesday 28/June/2023 will be the day of Eidul Adha 1444 AH,” the statement reads.
“His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, wishes the entire Muslim Ummah happy Eidul Adha Mubarak in advance.”
