The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Faleye Olayele, on Tuesday, confirmed the gruesome murder of two (2) persons.

The victims, whose names are yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report, were affected by the boundary dispute between Abaomege-Oshinkwo communities, Onicha Local Government Area of the State.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki by the command’s spokesperson, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, he said a police officer was also injured by the warlords.

According to report, the age-long boundary dispute between the two communities of Abaomege and Oshinkwo had resulted in the killing of hundreds of innocent citizens and destruction of valuable properties worth millions of naira.

The previous administration led by David Umahi had revoked the disputed land and had ordered the two communities to stay away.

The crisis was renewed barely one week after the former governor, Umahi handed over to the present administration led by governor Francis Nwifuru.

A source, who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki, on the condition of anonymity said: “Three people from Ukawu were shot dead, and one happened to be my uncle’s wife dead.”

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olaleye through the command’s spokesperson, Onovwakpoyeya said: “Three persons, including a police officer, who was returning home after the close of work, were shot at the Abaomege-Oshinkwo communal crisis area by Oshinkwo warriors.

“The victims were rushed to the hospital. Two of the victims were confirmed dead but the policeman is responding to treatment.”

The commissioner noted further that an intensive manhunt is on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
