THE Ondo State House of Assembly has elected a new speaker to lead the assembly’s proceedings over the next four years.

VAM reports that Hon. Olamide Oladiji, popularly known as Landmark from Ondo East constituency, has emerged as the new Speaker during the inauguration of the 10th assembly.

Oladiji secured the position of Speaker with unanimous support from fellow assembly members, while Prince Abayomi Akinruntan from Ilaje Constituency 1 was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

The letter, dated June 1, 2023, and addressed to the Clerk of the House, claimed that the speaker had resigned from his position. However, Oloyeloogun swiftly issued a statement refuting the authenticity of the letter, stating that it was fake and did not originate from him or the House of Assembly. His reaction was contained in a statement titled ‘I Remain Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly.’

The situation prompted heightened security measures around the assembly venue to ensure the smooth continuation of legislative activities.
