Labour Congress speaks on Strike action over Fuel subsidy

VOICE AIR MEDIA NEWS UPDATE

THE Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, says it has no plans of declaring an industrial action on Friday, June second.

The Congress is reacting to stories in the social media that the NLC has called out workers to down tools in protest of the withdrawal of fuel subsidy by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government.

A ststement by the Head Information and Public Affairs at the Headquarters of the NLC, Mr Benson Upah said “our attention has been drawn to stories circulating in the social media space claiming that the Nigeria Labour Congress would commence protest action tomorrow (Friday, June 2nd) against the increase in the pump price of pms.

” In as much as we are outraged by this mindless price increase which is intended to bring untold hardship to ordinary Nigerians, we have no plan to start any action tomorrow.

“What we do have for now are organ meetings slated for tomorrow, Friday, June 2nd, 2023 to deliberate on the price issue”.

He promised that the Organisation would keep Nigerians informed on their next line of action after the meetings.

“In light of this, we advise the public to disregard these stories. They did not emanate from the Congress“, he said.

Recall that organised Labour on Wednesday met with the representatives of the government over the Suden increase in the pump price of petrol.

Labour had asked for reversal of the subsidy removal to give room for proper dialogue on the issue.

The meeting was however deadlocked as both parties could not agree at the Wednesday meeting.
