Following an attack on a media house by irate youths in Ibadan on Sunday, the Osun State Police Command has assured media organisations and residents of the state of adequate security in the event of a similar attack by Yoruba Nation agitators.

VAM reported that angry youths, on Sunday morning, invaded and shut down Radio Nigeria, Amuludun FM 99.1 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, the state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe, enjoined the public and media houses to go about their normal businesses as adequate security measures have been put in place in case of any eventualities.

The command confirmed that it was fully aware of the situation in the state but assured that it would not reoccur as his men were fully prepared for the worst.

He added that security agencies will use all legal means to uphold the democratic process in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

The statement read, “The Osun State Police Command is using this medium to assure the general public, especially the media houses, of adequate security measures put in place to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the state, as the Police Command is aware of what is happening in our neighbouring state concerning the Yoruba Nation Agitators who attempted to hijack one radio station in the early hours of today, May 28, 2023.

“At the same time, Police Command is using the same medium to warn all disgruntled elements that may have the mind of truncating the democratic process of transition of power to jettison the idea forthwith as security agencies will use all legal means to uphold the democratic process in the state and in Nigeria as a whole.

“The Commissioner of Police, therefore, enjoins the general public to continue with their lawful businesses and be law-abiding citizens.”

However, thus newspaper gather reports that four of the agitators, among whom was a woman, have been arrested by the police with the assistance of the Nigerian army, while others ran in different directions to evade arrest.

One of the arrested agitators, who sustained gunshot wounds, had rushed into the studio to tell others that security operatives had taken over the nooks and crannies of the station.

An investigation by our correspondent revealed that after holding some night duty staff and security guards hostage, the agitators hijacked the studio and announced live on the radio: “Welcome to Yoruba Nation.”
