Basket Of Tomato Rises To Jackpot price In Ilorin

Residents and marketers on Sunday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, were shocked by a sudden increase in the price of tomato.

Mrs Abdullahi Latifat, while speaking with our correspondent about the development at Mandate Market, said the situation was beyond what the family could bear.

“Last week, the smallest bowl of tomatoes was sold for around N300 but now it’s N1,000. A big basket that used to sell for around N20,000 has shot to between N57,000 and N58,000.

Daily Trust observed that a small basketball of tomatoes was sold for N17,000 as against N4,000 before the Eid-el-Fitr and around N10,000 during and after the Eid.
