About 1,500 school teachers recruited by ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola at the twilight of his administration, on Monday appealed to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to reinstate them.

The teachers were sacked by Senator Ademola Adeleke shortly after he was inaugurated in November 2022.

The teachers, armed with a large banner with the inscriptions: “Forum of 1500 Newly Recruited Teachers In Osun State felicitates with Our Dear Governor and Osun State Workers on this occasion of 2023 workers’ day,” made an appearance at the venue of the May Day celebrations and also joined other workers in the state for the ceremonial march past.

The inscriptions on the banner further read, “We are very hopeful to join you soon. Our dear Governor, Please attend to our plight. The journey of over two years isn’t a child’s play. Moving Osun State forward is our priority.”

Other set of workers sacked by Adeleke were the medical professionals recruited by Oyetola.

Meanwhile, Adeleke, while addressing workers at the Osogbo City stadium in commemoration of the ‘May Day’ celebration, said ensuring better welfare for workers was his cardinal focal point.

A statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, quoting the governor further read, “In the history of Osun State, I am unarguably the first governor to have labour as the first item on his governance agenda.

“Since I took over in a very hostile environment, I have remained committed to the goal of workers first. You can all attest to my faithfulness in resolving inherited challenges on workers’ salaries and pensions.

“I have demonstrated good faith as a leader with a genuine love of workers at heart. You will always find in me a governor that is responsive and open to the well-being of labour.”
