INEC declares PDP winner of Reps suspended election in Imo

Ugonna Ozurigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party was named the victor of the House of Representatives election held in the Nwangele/ Nkwerre/ Isu/ Njaba Federal Constituency of Imo State on February 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday.

Prof. Rosetta Okechukwu, the federal constituency’s collation officer, announced the results at the Nwangele Local Government Area collation office. She said the PDP candidate received 19, 971 votes, the Labour Party candidate received 9, 372 votes to finish second, and Harrison Nwadike of the All Progressives Congress received 8, 991 votes to finish third.

Since elections were not held in all of Njaba LGA, INEC declared the election inconclusive on February 27.

But the PDP candidate challenged the electoral umpire’s decision to declare the election inconclusive.

Ozurigbo contended that his margin of votes of lead is higher than the number of Permanent Voters Cards collected in areas the election didn’t take place.

It was after the reviews of the contentious issues that INEC after two months declared the PDP candidate the winner of the election.

Shortly after his declaration, Ozurigbo said that the will of his people had prevailed.

He said that he was going back to the House of Representatives to improve the lots of his constituents. CONTINUE READING…………………………………….
