A man has reportedly stabbed his wife to death in Warri, Delta State.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening after a verbal confrontation between the couple over hot water. the suspect has since been arrested and he’s languishing in a police cell.
It was learnt that the suspect, an unidentified butcher, tried to scoop hot water from the fire to bathe when he returned from the market where he butchers and sells meat, however, his wife objected and asked him not to touch the gas as he did not make provisions for their upkeep or money to fill the gas at home.
The suspect reportedly ignored his wife protestations and went straight to the gas to scoop the hot water.
What started as simple altercation soon turned into a brawl as the wife attacked him and a fight broke out between the couple.
In the ensuing fracas, the deceased wife reached for a knife with the intention to stab her hubby who in turn subdued her, collected the knife and used same to stab her severally until she collapsed.
At that point, the suspect rushed his wife to a private hospital for treatment where he lied that she was involved in a ghastly accident.
Devastated by the development, his daughter rushed to the Police Station and reported the matter and the suspect was immediately arrested.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the report in a telephone chat with Our Correspondent in Warri.
