THE Osun State Police Command on Sunday said its operatives rescued a woman, abducted along the Osogbo Ikirun/Road on Friday by gunmen.
According to Punch report, an unspecified number of travellers were abducted at Ayepe Area, a community located along Osogbo/Ikirun road in the early hours of Friday.
The Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, after confirming the incident, said the driver of the vehicle that was attacked by the gunmen had been found.
Opalola also said rescue operation had commenced to free other abductees.
A top security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim was rescued by the police team that went after the abductors.
The source further said the gunmen abandoned the victim after police team engaged them in exchange of gunshots in a forest at the centre of Osogbo, Iragbiji and Ibokun towns, where she was held.
Giving update on the incident during an interview with newsmen on Sunday, Opalola said the woman was rescued by the police on Saturday.
She however refrained from giving details of how the victim regained freedom.
She said, “The operatives rescued the kidnap victim of Ikirun/Osogbo Road abduction that occurred on Friday. The woman has been rescued alive and taken to the hospital for necessary medical attention.”
