An early morning fire on Thursday razed down a section of the Olowu Automobile Spare Parts Market in Lagos. The fire was reported to have started at about 2am and affected 13 shops, four warehouses and one restaurant.
The spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South West, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident, said the Commandant, 9th Brigade, Ikeja, on assessment visit met officials of NEMA team at the scene.
“The cause of the fire could not be determined, but the chairman of the traders association, Bassey Ikpendu, applauded the effort of the fire service. “The chairman narrated that one of their apprentices slept in the building and noticed the fire but that by the time he got out, the fire had engulfed the building and immediately the fire service was contacted. No injury or death was recorded,” he said.
Voice Air Media recalls that goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire incident that occurred on March 8, at Akere Spare Parts Market, Ajegunle, in the Apapa area of Lagos.
The corpse of a 65-year-old security guard was also said to have been recovered near the scene of the incident.
Similarly, on Tuesday morning, a fire broke out at the Balogun Market, Lagos, killed one person and injured seven others.
