PoS Operators Arrested Over Naira Notes Selling In Ondo

The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission were seen at some areas in Akure South and Akure North Local Government Areas of Ondo State, arresting some Point of Sales operators allegedly selling naira at a high prices.

It was gathered that scores of the operators were arrested on Friday and Saturday by the anti-graft commission men.

The suspects were alleged of buying cash from banks and selling the notes (N500 and N1000) to their customers at exorbitant prices.

An eyewitness stated that the men who wore a red jackets with EFCC inscriptions on it stormed the popular Oja-Oba market in Akure and arrested many PoS agents along the road.

“They have arrested many PoS attendants in Oja Oba area, if they come to you, they will ask you to disclose the source of your cash and how much you are charging your customers and also ask you to take them to the person that gave you the money.

“Some PoS attendants, who got the information beforehand, abandoned their stands and fled.”

Another source said the EFCC operatives were in the town with their bus at Oba Ile in Akure North LGA where they made some arrests of the PoS operators

She said, “A PoS agent was attending to customers when a woman came down from the bus and asked how much he charged on every one thousand naira.

“As at the time the transaction was made, I saw the woman signaled to some men and that was how I knew they were EFCC officials and they whisked him away.”

Efforts to reach the EFCC spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujaren , on the development was unsuccessful as his telephone line was not going through as at the time of filing this report. (NAN)
