A private car owner was killed on Thursday morning, March 9, when a commercial bus driver driving against traffic collided with his vehicle around Meiran area of Lagos.
This happened barely few hours after a train in motion around Shogunle area crushed a Lagos State Government staff bus with occupants inside on the rail track, at about 8.45 am, killing at least six and injured over 80 persons in the process.
On the Meiran accident, report had it that a Volkswagen commercial bus driver with registration number EPE 964XX, while driving against traffic, on high speed, suddenly, collided with a private car, a Honda Civic, Lagos registration number, EPE 666 BC, killing the occupant on the spot.
The Lagos State, Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, (Bravo) Anthony Ajanlekoko, who was at the spot of the accident, said it occurred around 9:30am.
According to Ajanlekoko, the driver of the Honda Civic car sustained serious neck injury and died instantly in a pool of his blood.
The deceased it was gathered was living inside Meiran Estate which is very close to the scene of the accident.
LASTMA Officials after initial official documentation of the accident, later handed over the corpse to his relatives who came out from the estate.
Both vehicles were immediately removed from the road to pave way for free vehicular movement to other road users.
The perpetrator, driver of the commercial bus and the vehicle were handed over to policemen from Meiran Police Station.
LASTMA, General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, warned motorists (private/commercial) to desist from disobeying traffic laws, particularly driving against traffic (one-way).
“Driving against traffic (One-way) is awaiting dead trap on roads,” Oregba warned.
