As the tribunal prepares to deliver on the suit filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate for governor, Gboyega Oyetola, against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Ademola Adeleke, police officers have been deployed at the strategic points in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Oyetola is challenging the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke in the July 16, 2022 governorship election.
Voice Air Media gathered that the police deployed its men to block the road to the Osun State High Court from Oke-Fia and Lameco roundabouts. Only people with special functions are allowed to move into through the about 1km road.
Tight security was also observed at the Party secretariats of both the PDP and the APC located at Biket Junction and Ogo-Oluwa respectively.
Armed men were also sighted at the campaign offices of Oyetola and Adeleke, both located at Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo. The measure according to a security source is aimed at preventing breakdown of laws and orders by the supporters of both political parties.
Inside the court premises, men of the police force, civil defence and department of state security were sighted providing security at the premises.
Earlier on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola had in a statement warned politicians and political hoodlums not to cause any violence.
“Osun State Police Command desires to assure the general public, especially the good people of the state, of sufficient security prior to, throughout, and after the judgment,” reads the statement.
“The Police, working with other security agencies in the state, have put the essential security measures in place to deal with anyone, group of people, who would attempt to incite disturbance decisively within the bounds of the law.
In order to remind parents and guardians to advise their children and wards to keep out of trouble/violence, the Osun State Police Command is using this medium.
The command will not tolerate any form of thuggery or hooliganism, thus they should not permit themselves to be used by any vile politicians to instigate a crisis in the state.
