Ogun: COMTEAN kicks against arrest of members over stolen gadgets

The Ogun chapter of Computer Telecommunications Technician Association of Ogun State (COMTEAN) has kicked against frequent arrest of its members over stolen gadgets.

 

COMETAN newly elected chairman Comrade Adewole Ademuyiwa Timothy told journalists after his election that it breaks his heart whenever he sees a phone and computer engineers being arrested for unlocking any gadget brought to him for repairs.

 

He vowed to put an end to arrests in his tenure by liaising with security agencies, noting that harassment and arrests of members over stolen mobile phones or computers were becoming unbearable.

 

According to him, technicians’ job is to repairs gadgets and they should not be held responsible for stolen ones brought to them for repair.

 

He appealed to the security agencies especially the police to perform their duties in line with the constitution of the country.

 

He added that he has got a lawyer to defend members of the association if any of them is arrested illegally or taken to court.

 

Ademuyiwa divulged that he was ready to work with his co-contestant, Adewale Adigun. , who scored 12 votes and Babafemi Moses, who polled 10 in the election where 40 delegates from four division of the state – Egba, Remo, Yewa, and Ijebu, voted him in as the new chairman.

 

He also asked the members to cooperate with him in steering the affairs of COMTEAN for the next two years, hinting that he was ready to turn around things for better for the members and ensure the security of the lives and properties was guaranteed.

 

“The major challenges is security agencies. The police harassment, at times they will arrested all these people that stole phones or computers, we call it gadgets, but we our major work is to unlock the phone or computer and repair so they will arrest the culprits and still try to arrest the we the engineer again.”

 

“We are doing our work as a bonafide citizens of Nigeria which i believe that we have the legitimate right to operate our business. And I will liaise and have a good relationship with security agencies and have a solid lawyer on the ground, that will help us interprets our minds and our yearnings to the government,” he said.
